Friday May 12 to Sunday May 14, 2017 - Opening night for play Art @ The Box Toronto: Studio and Theatre. A translation of a French-language play, Art is about one man, Serge, who buys an expensive painting, a white canvas with a few white lines, and the reactions of his friends, Marc and Yvan, to his purchase. Marc responds with shock and anger; for him, Serge's purchase of the painting is a cruel joke. Yvan tries to mediate the hostility between Serge and Marc, at the cost of redirecting them to himself. As the conversations moves from the theoretical to the personal, the three friends are forced to ask questions not only about the nature of art, but about the nature of friendship. Friday May 26, 2017 - Covenant House Sleep Out Women Unite @ Covenant House Toronto. Experience a Girls Night Out with purpose on May 26. Our sleep outs are unique and memorable. We convert our gym into an event space and sleepers have the chance to engage with current and alumni Covenant House Toronto youth along with our front-line staff. Mocktails and dessert will be prepared and served by the youth in our Cooking for Life culinary arts program and there will be ample opportunity to connect and make a genuine impression on our youth. Many past sleepers have found this to be a very impactful part of the evening. It is a tangible experience that strengthens every sleeper’s resolve to fundraise by spending a night sleeping on the street. At-risk, homeless and trafficked youth are particularly vulnerable in our society. Often, through no fault of their own, they’ve been made to endure abuse and neglect. Then, after finally fleeing their situation, find themselves alone, desperate and with no place to call home. Imagine a kid that you know needing to go through this. It’s just not right. We know that women have a unique strength that is rooted in the perseverance to break through barriers. It is that shared experience that makes us more powerful together. We can direct that force today to help homeless kids move forward. Covenant House Toronto. 20 Gerrard St. E. 6 pm to 7 am Register Today http://bit.ly/2rChqGa
